We had a fun week this week celebrating the 4th and celebrating the fact that Jason had two days off in a row again (yay! a rarity at our house).
We went on an outing to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. I like plants, flowers, etc. and the arboretum is a great place to check out various specimens and planting combinations and to just take a walk and have a picnic. It was HOT day but we went early in the morning, so we were fine.
A few pics from our day at the arboretum...
Our 4th was pretty relaxing. We stayed close to home and Emma enjoyed lots of pool time. We had steak and a delicious salad and corn for dinner. I am bummed that I barely took any pictures but we were having so much fun, I didn't even think about it. Here are a few pics that I took...
4th of July, 2008...THE AFTERMATH photo.
Emma and Jason right before we left to go to fireworks.
We brought Emma to the fireworks display in her pjs so that we could put her to bed as soon as we returned home. And, as it turned out, that was a GREAT strategy. You see, Emma's bedtime is 7:30ish. Fireworks started at 10:00. When we arrived at the park, Emma was VERY sleepy and when the fireworks started going off, she put her head on Jason's shoulder and closed her eyes tightly. She wasn't afraid, but I think that she was just irritated that something SO LOUD was keeping her from getting her beauty rest. ; ) She was asleep within minutes and she slept despite the VERY LOUD fireworks show. : )
Before I sign off, I wanted to mention that we had grilled corn with our dinner on the 4th. Have you ever grilled corn? Grilled corn is very tasty...you should try it!! Some people leave the husks on when they grill corn, but we like to remove the husks and the silk, lightly oil the corn and then grill it for a few minutes on each side, turning it once in a while. After the corn is cooked, we remove it from the grill and serve it with a garlic and rosemary butter. We mix about 1/2 stick of butter with 1/2 - 1 clove of minced garlic and minced fresh rosemary to taste. DELISH!!!!
God bless,

Corn...YUMO! Especially on the grill. Stopping by to say Happy Weekend. Love your pictures. I have been taking pictures of my front yard flowers and practicing on my new camera. Unbelievable enough, they are turning out quite nice. Take Care!
Love all your flower photos! It's fun to take pictures of flowers. What a difference in Emma last year and this years! It just goes by way too fast.
Sending my love to you all!
XOXOX

Love the photos! It sounds like you all had a nice weekend.
Your 4th sounded great!! She is growing so quickly; I certainly agree. I know how quickly those little girls grow. My babies are now almost 19 and 22; oh my goodness; it's so hard to believe.
Those flowers were beautiful; you got great shots.
Great flower pictures! btw, I had to go over and peek at Nester's and wow, beautiful home she has. I love it!
I love grilled corn too. I think corn overall is my most favorite veggie. Enjoyed all the pictures. Emma is so sweet, and a big high 5 for Jason and the fence. My Jason recently put up a few 6x6 vinyl fence panels and I have to admit I didn't think he could do it. He sure proved me wrong. lol
*hugs*
I'm baaaack!
I know I have shared with you before, Amazing Jacob's caringbridge page, but his mama has a blog these days, and I think I have shared it also. But just in case..

PS I had to repost this comment - in my haste to share, I misspelled words! : ) That's why I have a deleted comment!
I haven't tried taking it out of the husk when I grill...maybe I'll give it a try. I've always done it in the husk minus silk.
Sounds like a great holiday!
